The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced new guidelines to govern the marking of national examinations.
The rules cover the conduct of examiners and includes the banning of electronic gadgets inside the marking centres and restriction on access to the marking centres by unauthorized personnel.
“Examiners are discouraged from carrying personal electronic gadgets, like laptops and tablets to the marking centres. Every person getting into/out of a marking centre shall be subject to security check/frisking at the gate,” read a statement from the Council.
Marking centres have been limited to Nairobi, Machakos and Murang’a
The directive further clarifies the conduct of all contracted examiners whose contracts with the Council will only be honoured after successful marking and submission of exams to the Chief Examiner’s report.
They point out that all examiners are expected to reside within the marking centres, unless with clearance from KNEC.
It also said that examiners should carry their letters of invitation and present them to the Centre Organizers at the time of checking in.
“In this regard, Chief Examiners and Examiners in Charge should not permit any person without the invitation letter to participate in marking without the express authority of the Council Secretary/Chief Executive,” it said.
It further pointed out that payments to Examiners at the marking centres will be made on production of their National Identity card.
