Kenya National Examinations Council has been urged to deal with schools cheating in the national exams.
In a hard-hitting attack, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education teachers (KUPPET) Vice chairman Julius Korir said that some KNEC officials help schools to cheat in the national exams.
This comes few weeks after West Pokot Senator Professor John Lonyangapuo said that some KNEC officials help ‘elite’ schools to cheat in national exams.
Speaking on Thursday at a Nakuru hotel during a conference, bringing together secondary school head teachers from Kisii County, Korir claimed that the examination body was to blame for declining quality of education in the country.
“We know some schools collude with insincere KNEC officials to sell national examination papers. This has to stop and KNEC must up its game to end examination cheating,” said Korir.
The KUPPET official called for joint efforts by the ministry of education to thwart regular instances of examination cheating in the country.
Korir threatened to mobilise teachers to boycott marking of National examinations this year if the issue of cheating is not dealt with.
The push for a probe of giant examination body comes a few days after Senator Lonyangapuo shocked the Nation claiming that the institution sets exams and sells them to top schools to enable them perform well in both KCPE and KCSE.
The former Permanent secretary spoke last Saturday at Bishop Muge Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County during a thanksgiving ceremony.
