A neuro-surgeon attached to the Kenya National Hospital (KNH) on Thursday conducted a brain surgery on the wrong patient.
In a statement, KNH confirmed the unfortunate incident adding that the affected patient was recovering well.
"The hospital deeply regrets this event and has done all it can to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient in question," KNH's statement read in part.
The hospital management announced that it had suspended the admission rights of the Neurosurgery Registrar for conducting the operation o the wrong patient.
Three other employees including the theatre receiving nurse, the anesthetist and the ward nurse have also been suspended.
"The management of Kenyatta National Hospital has suspended the admission rights of a Neurosurgery Registrar and issued him with a show-cause letter for apparently operating on the wrong patient," KNH stated.
The suspended staff are expected to appear before a committee established by the hospital's management to defend themselves.
