Today marks the 69th World Human Rights Day.The Kenya National Human Rights Commision has said that it is deeply concerned about the surge in human rights violations and sexual abuse cases.According to the commission's human rights senior officer, Petronella Mukaindo, the KNHRC has documental at least 37 civilian deaths that are directly attributable to police brutality.''Issues of bribery happen to compromise human rights. We have seen human rights defenders being arrested. '' She told the Daily Nation.Mukaindo lamented that rights captured in the universal human rights declaration have not yet been realised in Kenya and that there was a great need to ensure that human rights are fully respected.She bemoaned the killing of elderly people suspected of witchcraft in the coast and the problem of female genital mutilation in northeastern.''Elderly persons are easy targets of sexual violence, murder, and ridicule, though I cannot authoritatively speak about it.'' Ms. Mukaindo said.
