The Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHCR) is set to probe killings in North Rift, Coast and North Eastern due to gun violence.

According to KNHRC, over 2000 people have been killed in the affected regions, with 91 police officers losing their lives while 180, 000 have been displaced over the past three years.

The probe is set to begin on May 9 and will last 30 days.

"Over the past three years, in response to increased insecurity in the country, we have deployed a team to investigate the causes of the conflict in those regions," said the KNHRC chairperson, Kagwiria Mbogori.

The first phase of the probe will target North Rift region and will run until June 10.

Baringo County hearings will take place in Marigat , between May 9 to May 13; Yatta, between May 16 to May 20 , and finally in Kaptambwa and Chemilongot, between May 23 to May 27.

The team will then head to Turkana Counties, Kainuk and West Pokot from June 6 to June 10.

"The findings and results of the public hearing shall be shared with relevant public and private institutions for remedial action," added Mbogori.

Members of the public who wish to participate in the hearing will be allowed to do so publicly or on camera through a private session.
