Kenya National Library Service Kisumu branch is set to partner with international organisations to digitise operations at the facility.
According to branch director Eliud Koech, negotiations are at an advanced level to fund the project that seeks to put the materials at the facility on a digital platform.
“The world is moving to a digital platform and we should move it. We are partnering with various international institutions to ensure material at our facility is accessed from any point of the world,” said Koech.
Koech said the list of the organizations will be revealed when they reach a breakthrough in the negotiations.
He said that if successful, the program will see students visiting the facility access tablet computers which will contain over 40 million reading resources on diverse topics.
The facility director added that they seek to train teachers and the youth in the ICTs as a way of promoting a reading culture in the country.
“We have learned that our reading culture is wanting and therefore we need to do something. Training in ICT will ensure the youth can access different reading materials online because to them it is convenient,” he added.
Koech said that they plan to train the teachers in order to assist their learners while addressing the press in Kisumu on Wednesday morning.
