Speaking on Monday at Tom Mboya College, Salim said that incidences of children molestation were rampant hence the need to scrutinise nannies' capabilities and their real domicile before contracting them.

“If we want to curb cases of child molestation we have to make sure we know our nannies well,” said Salim.

Salim said vetting nannies before employing them strengthens the bond between the parent and the nanny.

"Let us know our nannies before employing them so that we can have a healthy conduct in our society. We need to shape ways of contracting nannies and not looking for them at the last minute when desperate,” said Salim.

Kisumu nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo supported Salim’s sentiments saying that parents need to have a proper picture on the kind of nannies they were employing.

“You need to know your nanny well before employing her.  At the same time we need to treat them well,” said Odhiambo.

Speaking in the same meeting, Juliana Weke, a nannies' spokesperson said  that nannies were human beings and they deserve fair treatment.
