Kisii Central Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Branch Executive Secretary Shem Nyaundi has raised integrity questions on the ongoing Kenya Secondary School Education (KCSE) examinations.
Nyaundi has questioned the credibility of the exams and their expected results next year due to alleged leakages.
The Knut boss challenged the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) to assure parents that candidates siting for the exams that they will not be victims of the alleged exam leakages being witnessed in some parts of the country, raising concerns over the integrity of the exams and the expected results.
Speaking to this writer in Kisii town today (Wednesday), Nyaundi challenged Knec to come out clearly on what is happening to the ongoing exams instead of shifting blame from its leadership to individuals dealing and selling exam papers in the streets.
Nyaundi regretted that, the twist of events surrounding this year's national exams have exposed institutional weakness within Knec in protecting and securing the integrity of the exams, raising credibility questions on the future of the candidates gauged by the same compromised exams.
"As a union, we have been taken aback by the turn of events, following revelations of exam leakages for various papers in the ongoing KCSE exams in the media, raising anxiety among candidates and their parents who had invested heavily in their children's education for the past four years," lamented Nyaundi.
Nyaundi wondered how the exam questions got their way to candidates from Knec's custody, yet the examining body is supposed to protect the secrecy of the exam questions.
