Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Rongo branch chairperson Samuel Omwaga wants the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to increase the number of teachers in understaffed schools in the region.
Omwaga said the inadequate number of teachers in most schools in the region is to be blamed for the poor performance recorded by the schools.
He said some schools have been operating without head teachers, deputy head teachers, and even the senior master for a long time because they either retired or were transferred.
The Knut boss also asked the teachers’ employer to better its relationship with teachers.
Omwaga said the education standards in the region can only be improved when all the education stakeholders in the region unite and play their roles effectively.
The Knut chairman also asked the government to introduce feeding programs in primary schools to support learners who come from poor families.
He also asked the county government to come up with scholarship programmes to support pupils who scored less than 250 marks in KCPE examinations.
