The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) will today convene a meeting by the union's top decision-making organ to hold crisis talks following the tug-of-war between secretary general Wilson Sossion and chairman Mudzo Nzili.

The National Executive Council has called its 41 members to the meeting to also plan the Annual Delegates’ Conference for next month.

To lead in the agenda will however be the thorny issue surrounding frosted relations between the two leaders at the top.

Earlier, Sossion demanded that Nzili goes on a six-month terminal leave as he awaits his retirement next year.

But the chairman did not take this lightly, prompting him to stage a counter battle in defence of his tenure.

“Be sure I will be there as I am still the legal chairman as contemplated in the Knut constitution,” Nzili said on Monday.

He said Knut's tradition has been that outgoing officials get the opportunity to preside over their last AGM and address delegates.

“This must be respected and I should be accorded that opportunity,” Nzili said.

The standoff has left the union torn and divided along political lines with Sossion and Nzili attracting supporters of NASA and Jubilee respectively.
