The Teachers Service Commission's (TSC) use of age factor in effecting teachers’ transfers in Kisii has been faulted.
Shem Nyaundi, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) representative in Kisii, described it as a sham, claiming it lacked basis and credibility.
Nyaundi dismissed TSC's claims that Kisii central was overstaffed and needed teacher re-distribution to other sub-counties.
He said it was unfair for the teachers' employer to use age criteria in the transfer of teachers, arguing that teacher transfers and balancing should not be pegged on one's age at all.
"It is ironical that TSC is giving blanket statements that Kisii central district is overstaffed without taking into account those set to retire and the sick still counted in the same district which the employer claims is overstaffed," lamented Nyaundi.
He warned TSC against employing age factor as a yardstick through which to effect teachers' transfers in the area.
He claimed the commission used the criteria to target only the young and energetic teachers for the transfers in favour of the aged tutors in the profession.
