Teachers unions have expressed their intention to fight for teacher promotion instead of higher salaries.
Officials of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers said yesterday the unions had expended too much energy on higher salaries leading to stagnation of their members in the same job group for over a decade.
According to KUPPET chairman, Omboko Milemba, the most affected teachers were those in Land M categories.
Knut chairman also vouched for the change of focus to promotion, saying that promotions would culminate in higher salaries.
The matter will be part of the agenda when Knut officials meet next month in Mombasa.
''We will look into the performance appraisal for teachers as well as delocalisation of leadership of schools.'' Sossion said according to a story by the Daily Nation.
Milemba made the case for the promotion of teachers whose schools performed impeccably in national examinations.
He decried the fact that headteachers were the only ones benefiting when their schools did well.
