Teachers' organisations Kuppet and Knut have asked the Ministry of Education to stop intimidating teachers who are invigilating this year's KCSE exams.
Speaking through a joint statement read by South Kisii Knut executive secretary Geoffrey Mogire, the two organs asked the Teachers' Servise Commission (TSC) to protect teachers from what they referred to as humiliation and undue harassment by the ministry.
“Unless the ministry immediately stops the program of intimidation and harassment of teachers who are invigilating, we may call for a boycott of the supervision and invigilation of the same in subsequent years,” said the statement.
“It is only fair that the concerned officers charged with the management of exams henceforth deal with cases of alleged malpractice with a human face," Mogire added.
Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has been on the alert with his officers making impromptu visits to schools to check against examination cheating.
