The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (Kuppet) has announced that they will continue pursuing better wages for their members despite Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) failing to attend a retreat by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kisumu.
Kuppet secretary general Akello Misori said their resolve to attend the retreat to iron out issues in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is not a betrayal.
Misori said the two unions had presented the memorandum of claim to TSC and it was time to negotiate on the way forward.
“We presented differently, the memorandum of claims to TSC. It is now upon Knut to follow up on their own. That remains not our headache,” he said on Thursday.
He said Kuppet and Knut are two entities and they are not troubled by the failure of the latter not to attend the retreat.
Addressing a press conference in Kisumu on the sidelines of the retreat at Tom Mboya Labour College, Misori wondered why Knut is reneging yet they were in the forefront for the retreat.
“When we were in Mombasa, Knut was pushing for this process, now they are nowhere to be seen,” he said.
He said Knut did not inform them of their intention to pull out of the retreat, noting that they will soldier on with the negation process.
Kippet national chairman Omboko Milemba said the retreat was born out of a meeting they had with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Mombasa.
Milemba said Kuppet is fulfilling its mandate to see the CBA is realised and will not be held back.
