The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Kilindini branch secretary general Dan Aloo has asked the government to stop infringing on their rights.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KSSHA) conference at Wild Waters Mombasa, after the new code of ethics was unveiled by TSC, Aloo said they were not ready to comply with the new directives, terming them as 'bedroom laws'.
“Bedroom laws will not be adhered to. We as significant citizens of this country will be involved in politics. There is nothing Teachers Service Commission (TSC) can do to stop us,” Aloo said.
Aloo termed the rule that denies teachers an opportunity to engage in politics as a ploy to gag them, by making them insignificant citizens who are not supposed to be involved in matters governance.
“Chapter Four of the bill of rights should be respected,” said Aloo.
A section of school heads who had attended the conference claimed that the new regulations were aimed at preventing teachers from determining the outcome of elections.
