TSC has already issued a circular to school heads informing them of the decision to start issuing pay slips online.

However, the Knut branch led by deputy secretary general James Oteki on Tuesday protested the decision and challenged its national leadership to put strategies in place to counter the move.

“It’s very disappointing that TSC is trying to subject us to unprecedented neocolonialism. We haven’t been consulted over the decision and as a branch, we rebuke their plans and call for intervention from all Kenyan teachers,” he said.

“These are orchestrated plans to limit registration of new membership hence weakening our union which defends teachers’ plights,” Oteki added.

“We are tired with plans to gag teachers of this country. You cannot think in a boardroom and come up with a decision that will have severe impact on us. They should have engaged us in consultations before arriving to that,” he added.

He said the plans will not only make it difficult for teachers from remote areas to access the services but also tamper with their rights to choose their preferred unions.

“Accessing internet is a big challenge for many teachers especially those in remote areas. We don't want a scenario where someone will have difficulties in accessing their pay slips in time. We also know that it’s a scheme to limit registration of new members and that is unacceptable. We must be consulted by the TSC,” he said.
