Chepkoilel Knut Secretary General Sammy Bor has applauded the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for raising teachers' pay.
"As Union leaders we are grateful to our employer. At least the teaching profession can be respected due to better pay," he added.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Bor said the increments will propel teachers to work extra hard to achieve better results.
"The morale of teachers will now go up since their welfare has been catered for," he added.
He reiterated that this will help resolve perennial disputes over allowances and basic pay which have seen learning regularly disrupted owing to strikes by teachers.
This comes after after Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Knut signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) where teachers are set for a major salary rise that will see the lowest paid primary school teacher take home Sh27,195, up from Sh21,756.
The lowest paid secondary school teachers will also have their salary increased to Sh34,955, up from the current Sh31,020.
