The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia received a dressing down from teachers in Busia on Saturday over alleged mistreatment.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Busia County spokesman Deogratius Owaya who doubles as Teso Branch Executive Secretary claimed Kenyan teachers lack leadership at TSC re-baptizing the teacher's employer as 'Teachers Suffering Commission'.
Speaking during the burial of Kawalun Primary School teacher Stephen Karani's son Elvis Jakait, 18, at Kolanya village in Teso North, Owaya said the de-localization of head teachers from the county was just a tip in the iceberg over the poor leadership at TSC.
"Beginning Monday April 30th, 2018 when schools re-open for second term TSC should expect paralysis of learning both in primary and secondary schools until the commission learns how to consults," he said.
"We are meeting in Nairobi on Sunday to map up our strategies on how to ensure that learning is paralyzed. The new Cabinet secretary for Education Amina Mohammed is not in the know of what is happening."
TSC commissioner Albert Fred Ekirapa who was present had a hard time convincing the teachers that they are meeting with the giant teachers union on Wednesday in Nairobi to iron out contentious issues and did not want to pre-empt on what is on the agenda.
"We have no problem with the union officials. We usually meet at KNUT headquarters for a cup of tea to warrant any quarrels," he said.
