KNUT Eldoret West branch secretary general Kipchumba Arusei said the proposal was good and should be supported by all the education stakeholders.

“I want to thank the Ministry of Education for this noble proposal since students also get sick and will require quality and not quantity health care,” Arusei said in Eldoret town, Monday.

“I will advise the government to proceed with the plans and if they will ask parents to pay some little amount they should comply since it would have offloaded a lot of burden from the shoulders of the parents,” he added.

The Eldoret West KNUT boss, however, called upon the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ more teachers to address an acute shortage being witnessed across the country.

“We have been having teachers shortage since time memorial but we have never experienced the shortage we are facing now of over 100,000 teachers,” noted Arusei.

“It's sad that the government only gives funds to employ 7,000 teachers annually, how many years will it take to bridge that gap? We cannot talk about 100 percent retention, quality education, and 100 percent transition if we don’t have enough teachers,” he added.
