Nyamira County Knut branch chairman Kennedy Nyamwanda who was arraigned at the High Court in Nyamira on Wednesday and charged with hate speech has vowed not to relent in fighting for teachers' rights.
Speaking after he was released on a Sh20,000 cash bail by Resident Magistrate Alice Towett, Nyawanda said his detention at the police cells has emboldened him.
Nyamwanda was arrested on Tuesday evening in Nyamira North by CID officers and the area OCPD over hate remarks allegedly made nine months ago at a public event in Gesweswe village, Boisanga sub-location Nyamira North Sub County.
According to the prosecution, the top Knut county official allegedly called President Uhuru a 'bhang smoker who was leading the county to the river'.
"I am now out powerful than ever and I must fight for the teachers who elected me," said Nyamwanda outside the Nyamira police cells.
He was represented in court by lawyer Erick Okong'o Omogeni. The case will be heard on November 21.
On his part, Kisii Central Knut branch secretary Geoffrey Mogire said the State will not intimidate teachers in any way because their leaders won't stop articulating issues affecting teachers.
"If there is anyone behind this intimidation and malice, let them know that we have put them on notice. They should not forget that they have a destiny with us come 2017," said Mogire.
