The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) annual delegates’ conference is scheduled to take place in Mombasa Today (Wednesday). According to a local daily, the conference comes at a time when the union is embroiled in leadership wrangles.

Outgoing chairman Mudzo Nzili and his deputy Samson Kaguma are expected to give their farewell speeches during the meeting following their compulsory leave.

Nzili and Secretary General Wilson Sossion have been trading barbs over the leadership of the union.

It all started when Sossion directed the National Chairman to go on a six month as the union deliberates over his retirement in 2018.

The union members, however, resolved that Nzili is given terminal leave pending his retirement in April next year.

The tussle broke out months after The Labour Ministry had asked the union not to hold elections to replace Nzili.

In a statement released to the newsrooms, the ministry noted that a by-election to replace Nzili does not adhere to the rules and regulations of the union. Sossion has maintained that there is no bad blood between him and Nzili despite the duo differing on several occasions before the public.
