The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Mombasa branch wants a remark of the whole KCSE examination.
The Teachers and other education stakeholders said that it was impossible for the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to accept marking of the examination in the shortest time.
They said the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination was recklessly marked, a reason that led to massive failure among students.
Led by Mombasa County KNUT Secretary General Dan Aloo, they said that the CS has been recently making abrupt changes without consulting education stakeholders, a situation the teachers termed dangerous for the country’s education sector in the country.
Aloo said that the marking of the KCSE examinations should be done afresh and all education stakeholders involved as they are reading mischief in the whole process.
“You cannot mark and release KCSE examination in less than a month, that was very short period and could not give positive results to students,” He said.
Aloo who was flanked by other education stakeholder and teachers from the Alternative Provision of Basic Education at Training- APBET at Vision of Hope Academy in Miritini said that Matiang’i should not play ownership of the education sector in the country.
“The education sector will only improve if we embrace dialogue and consultation, you cannot just wake up in the morning and change the whole marking process” posed Aloo.
On his part, the Secretary-General of Community schools countrywide under the umbrella association Alternative Provision of Basic Education and Training ABPET Juma Athman Lubambo said that a transparent marking process will accord students best results according to their hard work.
“After many complaints from the public, we demand a remark of the KCSE examination,” Lubambo said in his closing remarks after a four day Mombasa teachers forum on the new education system at Miritini Vision of hope academy, Mombasa.
