Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has opposed transfer of teachers from home sub-counties to other parts of the country saying that will cause inconvinience.
The officials said it will affect some of their members who will be transferred to insecurity prone areas such as North Eastern region and Mt. Elgon Constituency.
According to KNUT National Treasurer John Matiang'i teachers in North Eastern region and other areas that have been hard hit by insecurity will be disadvantaged.
Addressing the press in his Kisii town on Tuesday, Matiang'i said the Union was considering pushing for withdrawal of its members in the insecure areas to avoid being harmed by criminal gangs such as Al Shabaab.
“Transfer of teachers to insecure areas is dangerous for their lives, we will soon advise our members to withdraw from such areas until their security is guaranteed,” said Matiang'i.
The Unionist said that TSC is in the process of transferring teachers from their home county and be deployed to other areas to improve on performance but they will ensure that doesn't happen.
"If TSC goes ahead and transfer teachers from their locality to other places we will call for a nation wide strike that will ensure that we oppose the move" said Matiang'i
