Arusei said teachers in his region are not ready for the new education curriculum because it has a lot of hiccups and needs consultation from all stakeholders before it is implementation."I want to call upon the Ministry of Education not to be in a hurry in rolling out the new curriculum but instead should consult widely, train teachers and provide enough materials for teachers to understand the new curriculum," said the Eldoret West KNUT executive secretary general in Eldoret town, Tuesday. He, however, reiterated that KNUT is not against the new curriculum but said the review process should be done gradually."It will take ages for teachers to understand and familiarize themselves with the new system therefore they should be given more time for the same. We want our children to get quality education" added Arusei. The KNUT official further said for the new curriculum to be successful, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should employ more teachers since the current number is a drop in the ocean."Currently the country is experiencing a shortage of about 100,000 teachers and with the shortage the new system will not work," he said.
