Sossion on Saturday said teachers were not involved in the changes announced by Matiang’i on Thursday.

The Knut secretary general said they will not support the changes unless they are engaged.

“Some of the changes made by the Education CS are outrageous and as teachers we cannot support them,” he said.

Sossion said the move by the CS to abolish half terms in third term is not right.

He said the move by Matiang’i to abolish prayer days and visiting days in third term will not help.

“The CS should have engaged all stakeholders so that we reach a common consensus on some issues,” he said.

However, Matiang’i said all stakeholders including church leaders were engaged on new changes.

The CS said the changes made remain and must be adhered to.

On Thursday, the CS banned visiting days and prayer day in third Term.

Matiang’i said no prayer days or visiting days will be allowed in third term.

The CS also banned half terms in third term saying all the measures are aimed at curbing cheating in national examinations.

A section of parents and stakeholders in Kiambu have supported the new changes saying they help curb cheating in national examinations.

Kimani Kiharu, a parent in Kiambu supported the changes by the Education ministry.

“The changes are timely and will help ensure sanity in schools especially on examination irregularities,”  said Mr Kiharu.
