The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has threated to call its members to down their tools if the government does not employ 10000 teachers as it had promised.
Speaking on Sunday at Chelemei village in Chepalungu constituency, KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion said that the government is getting wrong on its priorities as its set to employ 10000 police officers and just 5000 teachers.
He said the union will not accept anything less than 10000 teachers.
“It is sad to note that the government is set to employ at least 10000 police recruits and a paltry 5000 teachers.” Sossion said.
“This is a clear indication that the government’s priorities are upside down so to say and we cannot let it happen,” he added.
In addition, he said that the criteria the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is using to effect allowances increment to its members is not the one agreed upon in November 2015.
“We have been questioning the criteria used by TSC to increase house allowances for some teachers while leaving others out. We want this addressed immediately, Sossion added.
He said that they were reading mischief in the way the government is dilly dallying in implementing the CBA they agreed upon.
