Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Yatta branch has told its members to defy letters of transfers issued to them by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The branch's secretary general Michael Nguo asked teachers in the sub county who have been served with transfer letters to defy them.
Nguo said teachers should not support the delocalization at all.
He said the Ministry of Education was wrong to transfer teachers from the region to other places.
"Masinga and Yatta sub counties teachers served with transfer letters shouldn't accept the transfer," Ngui said.
He addressed the press in Matuu on Thursday.
Nguo said due to that, many teachers have been forced to separate with their families.
He said KNUT won't sit idle and watch the Ministry of Education transfer teachers as planned.
Nguo asked the teachers to submit their transfer letters to KNUT offices in Kithimani for the union to deal with the issue.
"Bring the letters to our offices in Kithimani and leave the rest to us, we won't allow delocalization," he said.
Ngui's remarks were echoed by KNUT's treasurer, Mwala branch, Josphat Muli who said the Education Ministry should respect teachers and understand that they are parents who wouldn't want to be away from their families.
"The delocalization is uncalled for, it's in bad faith and the ministry should halt it with immediate effect," Muli added.
