The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has withdrawn the seven-day strike notice it had issued last week.

The notice was issued after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) confirmed that the teachers’ annual salary increment has not been scrapped.

The union gave TSC to reinstate annual salary increment failure to which they would call for nationwide teachers strike.

On Tuesday, TSC reiterated that contrary to allegations by Knut, teachers will continue to draw their pay rise as provided for in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed by the teachers union and the Commission last year.

“TSC has confirmed to us that the annual increment has been reinstated and we are happy and we have forthwith withdrawn our strike notice because it has been overtaken by events.
