Residents who are living in flood-hit regions of Kisumu County have been asked to move to safer places as a way to avoid the impact of the rampant flooding ravaging the area.

Kisumu County Commissioner warned of a serious action against those who will not adhere to the directive, adding that they will be charged.

County Commissioner John Elungata further appealed to the government agencies and other humanitarian organizations to come in swiftly to give help to those who have been affected by flooding.

"I urge all the residents who are staying along River Nyando and the rest of the rivers to move to safer places as flooding in the area is set to persist for some more days to come," she said.

"We appeal to other government institutions and NGO’s to move swiftly to offer humanitarian assistance to all the families who have been left homeless since their houses were swept away by the floods," said Mr Elungata.
