The trend in Nairobi last week was definitely Congolese maestro, Koffi Olomide after he assaulted his dancer at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in broad daylight.
The incident made news globally which led to him being deported from Kenya and his show being cancelled in Zambia.
The drama, however, did not end for ‘Mopao’, the name the superstar is known as in his home country, Congo, as he was arrested as soon as he landed in Kinshasa on Tuesday.
It did not take long before the 60-year-old Rhumba singer was taken to court where he would answer to the assault charges. He was thereafter, sentenced to a year in jail.
"We kindly ask you to put this photo of our artist on all your accounts, social networks as a sign of protest and especially of supports for the artist," read a post from the artist's Facebook page.
This is not the first incident where Koffi is being accused of assault. This was, however, the icing on the cake for a lot of people who termed him as uncouth.
‘‘Olomide has just been transmitted in prison without conviction or verdict of judgment and the prosecutor have refused to listen to the dancer supposed to be the victim," read yet another post from his page.
The 'Quartier Latin' singer denied having assaulted his dancer but, however, went ahead to post an apology video on Facebook stating that he was not in the right frame of mind at the time of the incident.
