Kenyan Premier league defending champions Gor Mahia beat GO Tv shield champions AFC Leopards by a solitary goal in an entertaining duel to win the Super cup trophy.

The Mashemeji derby that was played Sunday in Afraha Stadium was a curtain raiser for the 2018 Kenyan Premier League campaign.

Kogallo’s new captain Haron Shakava scored the only goal when he headed home from a George Odhiambo’s cross just five minutes to the half time whistle.

Coach Robert Matano’s charges impressed in the first minutes of the game with Ghanaian import Arkoh sending a thunderous kick at Boniface Oluoch’s goal but the Kenyan international did no mistake.

The match was evenly contested in the second half but Dylan Kerr’s charges did well to hold the vital win.

AFC leopards team was packed with a number of key signings with Collins Okoth alias Gattuso playing against his former employers, Gor Mahia while Humphrey Mieno was the only new signing who made it into Kerr’s starting lineup.

The defending champions adds the tally of super cups won to five while their counterparts are still in search of their first super cup silverware.

Both teams used the match in preparation for their title defense and a warm up for the continental football.
