Speaking during his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party's National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, the National Super Alliance (NASA) boss observed that the proposed leadership changes will eradicate the power rotation between a few ethnic communities.

However, speaking on 'Cheche' on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi Saturday, Koigi faulted the remarks terming them as misleading.

He called for the stop of ethnic politicking, urging the former premier to devise other methods of convincing the nation into buying his referendum idea.

"We should not be retreating to our ethnic communities during each political contest. The argument is weak and unfounded," he said.

"We have had the likes of retired President Daniel Moi who came from the Turgen community, one of the smallest then, but went ahead to secure leadership, proof that anyone can ascend to the presidency," Koigi added.

He further cautioned against individualism in the bid, calling upon the involved political players to push for the reforms with Kenyans in mind and not to favour a clique of individuals.

"The pro-referendum camp should do this for the benefit of the entire nation and not use it as a plot to benefit a few political players," he said.
