Veteran Nakuru politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has hit out at the government over opposition's National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna's handling at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The self-styled NRM General was on Monday denied entry into the country and detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) over a travelling documents row with the immigration department, upon arrival from Canada.

Miguna defied a directive to surrender his papers, with the immigration department vowing to only clear him upon compliance with the order.

According to Koigi, however, Miguna's prevention from accessing the country and detention at the port is unconstitutional as he is a genuine citizen of Kenya.

He observed that having been born in the nation, the outspoken barrister has a right to be allowed in whatever the case as he cannot, in any way, be stripped of his birth right.

''Miguna Miguna has a right to return to Kenya because it is the birthright of every person born in Kenya to live in, leave and return to Kenya,'' the former Subukia Member of Parliament wrote on his Facebook page.

''Every Kenyan out there has a right to return home with his person as his only passport and identity. Though we too have been denied this right, no law can or should supersede or controvert this natural right,'' he added.

Miguna was deported to Canada in early January, over participation in opposition chief Raila Odinga's January 30 controversial mock presidential inauguration.
