Veteran politician Koigi wa Wamwere has faulted the government over its recent crackdown on opposition block National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders.
The former Subukia Member of Parliament, while speaking to an NTV reporter on Friday, condemned the arrest of several opposition leaders in connection with Raila Odinga's January 30 mock inauguration at Uhuru Park Nairobi.
Wamwere, an ally of Odinga, pointed out that the actions demonstrate the Jubilee government's inability and unwillingness to uphold the rule of law.
According to Wamwere, President Uhuru Kenyatta-led leadership cannot embrace opposition and is therefore out to frustrate and trample on any attempt to correct and oppose it.
''It is clear that our democratic system is now failing and we are going back to the dark days when no one was allowed to oppose the government,'' he said.
Speaking on the detention and deportation of National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna on Tuesday, in line with the same oathing incident, Wamwere cautioned that the nation could be slipping into a dictatorship type of leadership.
He warned the government against taking that route adding that it is not healthy for Kenyans.
''With the historic acts of detentions and unjustifiable arrests coming back, it is clear that we are going back to the days of one party rule which was as well characterized by mass violation of human rights. This could just be the start and I suspect that there is more to come,'' he said.
