In a Facebook statement Saturday, Koigi laughed off assurances from the team that Ruto will receive an automatic support from the Mt Kenya community as gratitude for his long time support and loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Some people say all members if the Kikuyu community will spontaneously elect Ruto as the President come 2022. This is an open falsehood. Though I am a Kikuyu, I will not automatically vote him or anyone as President when the time comes," he said.

He said he will personally not vote for the Deputy President, terming him as unfit and unqualified to hold the post, citing among others, his questionable integrity and lack of nationalism.

"I will deny Ruto a vote not because we do not hail from the same community but because he does not qualify to be President. He has proved inability to uphold integrity and the fight against corruption and tribalism and is not a patriot and nationalist who can shelve his ambitions for the sake of the nation," added the veteran politician.

Ruto has since cleared the air on his candidature and is likely to take his first shot at the top seat on the ruling Jubilee Party.
