A senior politician in Nakuru who has been very critical of the Jubilee government has congratulated Deputy President William Ruto following a favourable ruling at the International Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Koigi wa Wamwere who served in the 10th Parliament representing Subukia constituency now Bahati, however, said it’s the role of the government to ensure all internally displaced people have been resettled or taken back to their homes.
Koigi said the Hague court has cleared Ruto’s name of any wrong doing.
“Right from Ocampo six, the cases have been terminated, but we still have people in the camps. Therefore, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his DP William Ruto, should know that while they celebrate the ruling, the victims who have not been compensated, have nothing to celebrate,” Koigi said in an interview with Radio Sauti ya Mwananchi, shortly after the ICC said Ruto and journalist Joshua arap Sang have “no case to answer”.
At the same time Koigi said the ruling will give Jubilee political mileage as the 2017 elections beckon.
The cases at the Hague based court were as a result of the skirmishes that befell Kenya after the 2007 general election, where at least 1000 Kenyans were killed, while more than 600, 000 were displaced.
