Former Subukia member of parliament, Koigi Wa Mwere, on Wednesday asked the former president, Daniel Moi, to apologise to Matiba's family for the death of their son.
According to Koigi, the torture that Matiba went through during the Moi regime was what eventually took away his life.
Speaking during an interview on JKL show on Citizen TV, Mr. Koigi said that Moi's apology to the Matiba's family will be good for the country and it could be the reason he is still alive: to apologise for having cause the gradual suffering of Matiba that eventually led to his demise.
"If you put anybody through this kind of suffering and torture at some point when this man no longer posses any threat to you, you should be able to apologise to the person.
"It is the same thing that I would like to ask Moi. He is still alive, maybe this is why God has kept him alive for so long. Please apologise to Matiba, it doesn't make you a lesser man," said Mr. Koigi.
It is in the books of history that at Moi's behest, Matiba, was once held at the Kamiti Maximum prison without trial in the year 1990.
While in prison, he was denied medication leading to him suffering stroke. He later faced health challenges from the stroke which for some time incapacitated him.
Due to these sufferings, Moi regime put Matiba through, Koigi felt that he had to eventually succumb to the illness. He, therefore, felt that the former president should apologise to the family for the demise.
"I wish Moi can be good enough, I think somebody can advice him to apologise," he added.
Matiba died on Sunday, April 15 after a long illness. His body will be moved from Lee Funeral home for a second funeral service at Ihura Stadium in Murang'a County tomorrow.
