Kenya is a democratic country where everyone has the freedom of association. You are at liberty to associate with anyone socially, economically and politically so long as that association does not infringe on the rights of others. However, Koigi's announcement that he is ready to join Jubilee is a betrayal to his past political ideologies.
What defines a selfless leader is his or her commitment to the ideologies that one fights for. Any deviation along the way is a letdown to your political supporters and admirers.
You should only retire from your struggle after what you believe it has been achieved.
Has Koigi's dream of a better Kenya been achieved? According to me, his ideal Kenya is far from being realized. Joining the ruling party is shortchanging the politically mistreated Kenyans.
Will Martin Shikuku smile in case he gets this news? Most budding politicians who want a Kenya that is fair looked at Koigi as a role model.
However, Nakuru's finest politician has taken a premature direction before the struggle he started bears fruits.
It will be great if Koigi remained a political mentor to the young politicians. He has to cultivate the fearless stand that had him detained by the KANU regime. He should leave a legacy as someone who helped Kenya mature politically.
Kenya is a young democracy that does not need a party like Jubilee and Koigi should not be part to it!
