He said it will take the efforts of all Kenyans, including the common citizens at the grassroot level and university students, to realize a united nation.

''National unity cannot be created by and left to two leaders only, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, to kick off national unity, the whole country must be involved,'' he said.

With the former Prime Minister having expressed his willingness to take President Kenyatta to the opposition strongholds in line with the unity bid, Koigi said Uhuru should also do so.

''We are told Raila will take President Uhuru to all bastions of ODM, NASA, Luhya, Luo, Kamba and Coast communities but that is not enough as Kenyatta must take Odinga to Jubilee strongholds too and as they tour the whole country they must detoxify ordinary people from ethnic intoxication. Without ethnic detoxification, nationalism will not take root or become our guiding star,'' he added.
