Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has asked the government to take a stern action against the public schools that have continued to charge parents exorbitant fees despite Education CS Prof Jacob Kaimenyi’s directive showing how various schools should charge.
Koinange said it is disheartening to see school heads and boards ignore the directive to the disadvantage of students and parents.
"The Education CS has said that no public school of whichever calibre should charge in excess of Sh 55,000. But some schools have not taken it seriously and are still charging as before, even to a tune of Sh100,000 for Form Ones. It is unacceptable," said Koinange.
The MP has now asked the Education Ministry to stamp its authority and end impunity in those schools.
"Let the Ministry be seen in action now and not just giving empty orders that no one follows," he said.
He has also proposed that all schools be required to pin their comprehensive fees structures on their notice boards for parents to be spared of 'hidden' charges.
Koinange was addressing a public gathering in Gachie.
