Kalya Kones, the first born son to former powerful minister Kipkalya Kones, maintains that he will not drop his Bomet East constituency bid adding that he is ready to face his opponents.

Mr Kones will face his mother, Beatrice Kones, who won Jubilee ticket in the Jubilee nominations that were held country wide.

And on Saturday at Bomet Green stadium, Kalya dismissed persuasions from a section of Rift Valley leaders who want him to drop his bid.

“I am in Bomet race to stay because I am equally capable. For those who think I will bolt out, it’s time that they accepted the challenge and we move on.

“The constitution gives us opportunities and no one should try to limit them. I will face whomsoever who is ready to take on me,” added Kones, in an indirect reference to his mother.

While Mr Kones has unwavering support from CCM leader Isaac Rutto, his mother will be relying on Jubilee party machinery for her election.

Mrs Kones served in the region as MP moments after he husband’s death but lost her bid in 2013 elections before making a comeback in Jubilee primaries.
