Former Home Affairs assistant minister and Bomet East parliamentary hopeful Beatrice Kones has urged her son Kevin Kipngetich who is also eyeing the seat on a Chama Cha Mashinani Party ticket to shelve his ambitions and back her.
Speaking over the weekend, Kones noted that she was best suited to represent the people of Bomet East in the National Assembly, exuding confidence that she will clinch the seat during the August polls.
“We have talked and he thought Jubilee nomination would not favour me. Now he must have seen the overwhelming support I got and he should back down and support me,” she said.
She further revealed that the family had earlier prevailed upon Kipngetich to vie for the seat and refused, only to declare interest when she announced her bid.
“We asked him several times two years ago to run for the seat on my behalf but he turned down the request, saying he was not prepared and when I had decided to take it up myself he came out on a CCM ticket,” she observed.
Mrs Kones, who is also the widow to the late former Cabinet Minister Kipkalya Kones is expected to vie on a Jubilee Party ticket.
