Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said the Kongowea wholesale and retail market will soon get a facelift.
The governor visited the market in line with his laid down vision of transforming Mombasa into a 24-hour economy.
Joho led a delegation to inspect the ongoing construction of stalls, which are expected to decongest the market.
"I further toured the trading section of the market and interacted with traders, inspected the state of the market roads, lighting, drainage system and solid waste disposal management,” said Joho in a Facebook post on Monday.
"It is therefore as a matter of urgency that I direct the departments of trade, energy and industry in conjunction with that of transport and infrastructure to work closely to immediately install floodlights in the market, paint the old buildings and walls, as well as repair the damaged drainage systems, so as to ensure the easy and smooth operation of the traders,” said Joho.
The governor also directed the departments to ensure collection of waste is done on time.
He also called for the construction of an exit road to pave way for easy movement of goods in and out of the market.
