Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has been reprieved after court threw out a case in which he was accused of conspiring with other persons to acquire 5,000-acres Malili Ranch for construction of Konza Techno City at Makueni county for Sh1 billion fraudulently.

Four directors of the Malili Ranch Ltd were arraigned in court afresh over the loss oof Sh553 million from the shareholders of the company in question.

Julius Mbau Nzyuko, James Kituku Munguti, David Ndolo Ngilai, and Leonard Kyania Kitua, however, denied the charges leveled against them.

Appearing before senior principal magistrate Lawrence Mugambi at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, the four pleaded not guilty of defrauding, stealing and breaching trust. Mugambi ordered the four remain free after they had paid Sh1.5 million bail during a past court hearing.

Among those set free are a former ranch director Julius Maweu Kilonzo, former commissioner of lands Zablon Mabeya, a member of the NPSC Ronald Musengi and former Information PS Bitange Ndemo.

Speaking during the hearing Senior assistant DPP Victor Mule said that the prosecution side had found it necessary to proceed with the charges leveled against the four.

Mule was working alongside Daniel Karuri, Warui Mungai and Lilian Obuor. The case will be heard on June 19.
