Just hours after the Cord protests and demonstrations along the University Way, police boss Japheth Koome accused the opposition of using hooligans in the protests.

Koome noted that some of the youths that took part in the Monday protest were drunk and armed with crude weapons.

Despite the opposition terming their protests as peaceful, a number of youths were seen hurling stones towards the police officers as they engaged in running battles. According to the police, the youth started being violent just after the Cord principals finalised their speech and left.

The opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga have, however, remained adamant and insisted that their campaign to remove the commissioners of the IEBC shall continue every Monday until the day the said commissioners decide to vacate office.

On its part, IEBC has insisted that they are legally in office and see no reason to leave office before the expiry of their constitutionally dictated term.
