Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome now blames politicians for the rising insecurity in the city.

Addressing the press on Sunday, Koome said that with cases of mugging being on the increase, a menace his force has since vowed and started to counter, politicians are to some extent a source of the problem.

He explained that the same is a result of the youth, some of whom were brought into the city during the concluded political season being shortchanged and abandoned by the aspirants, leaving them with no source of income.

He however assured city residents and visitors that the force is fully out to make the city streets safe for all.

''We have enough strategies, which i will not disclose, to counter the criminals. We also have enough officers on the ground, both undercover and uniformed, who are taking care of the situation,'' said the police boss.

Koome as well requested for the public to join hands with the police in the fight against crime.

He said that his office is open for feedback and suggestions through both social and mainstream media.

''We would not want to be on the defensive but are open for conversation with the public through both social and mainstream media,'' he said.
