Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati has threatened to move to court to sue Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome over his officers' excessive use of force on opposition supporters.

Arati spoke when he joined some of the families of those who lost their lives during the electioneering period at the City Mortuary Thursday. The families had arrived to pick the bodies of their loved ones in preparation for burial.

''We will move to court in pursuit of justice over the death of our supporters.Nairobi County Commander must soon face the full force of the law,'' he said in a media briefing.

Also present was Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris who said that the alliance has managed to so far raise around 6 million shillings to be channeled to the families of the departed.

She, however, said that the funds are not enough judging by the conditions some of the families are in.

''We have managed to raise around 5 or 6 million shillings but we need more because it is not only about giving them a good sendoff. We also need to uplift their families,'' she said.

Most of the dead lost their lives while taking part in demonstrations.
