Garissa gubernatorial aspirant, Ali Bunow Korane has accused Garissa Governor Nathif Jama of illegal recruitment of more than 1,450 desperate job seekers in the county.
Korane said the governor was taking advantage of desperate youth seeking employment by recruiting them in a move meant to hood wink them into voting for him come the August 8 polls.
“Governor Jama has now assumed the role of County Public Service Board (CPSB) in issuing an appointment letters to desperate job seekers. This is criminal and amounts to abuse of office,” he said.
“The role of employing is mandated to the County Public service board and is not a preserve of a politician or a governor,” added Korane.
The aspirant, who appealed to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter and take legal action against the governor said the CPSB audit revealed the governor has employed over 1,450 unlawfully.
Mr Korane said deserving candidates for the various County positions should be recruited through the laid down procedures adding that the governor was using public barazas or meetings of groups to carry out the illegal exercise.
“CPSB should advertise jobs, shortlist candidates, conduct interviews and finally hire deserving candidates for the various levels,” he said.
