Garissa Governor elect Ali Bunow Korane has urged security agencies to streamline security and deal with elements of terror agents causing fear among locals.

In meeting with the County Commissioner James Kianda on Tuesday, Korane said that security is crucial if the county if to achieve development goals.

He asked the security agencies to relax until when they will wipe out all terror agents and sympathizers.

Korane said that instances of insecurity in the county have scared away potential business investors.

“I am appealing to our security forces to work day and night and ensure that Garissa safe for us to achieve our development goals,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

The Jubilee governor elect said that he will work with the national government to boost security in the county and the larger North eastern region.

He also appealed to residents to work with the police as they keep law and order.

“I want to encourage residents to adopt the ‘Nyumba kumi’ security initiative and help in keeping law and order,” he said.

The governor-elect urged residents to observe the dusk to dawn curfew that is currently imposed for the sake of security.

Korane said that his government understands the issues facing locals and will tackle them within the shortest time possible.

The former Permanent Secretary (PS) clinched the governor seat narrowly beating outing governor Nathif Jama.

Jama has since disputed Korane’s win citing irregularities in tallying of votes. The outgoing governor says that he will contest Korane’s win in court.
