Garissa gubernatorial hopeful Ali Bunow Korane has criticized governor Jama for failing to act into the worsening drought situation in the county.
Speaking in Garissa town, Ali Korane urged the county government to use the contingency fund to mitigate biting drought and famine, saying the kitty was provided for in the recently adopted annual budget. Korane further called for very urgent interventions to avert possible livestock deaths in the event that the current situation continues.
Speaking separately in an interview with a local daily, Korane condemned the county leadership for allegedly spending a lot of time blaming each other for apparent failures, disclosing that finger pointing wont help the situation from getting out of hand.
“Residents from all the seven sub-counties want immediate help to come their way. It does not matter if the aid comes from the national or county government or from humanitarian agencies,” Korane said.
He, however, urged the Jama's administration to facilitate urgent distribution of more water, food materials and drugs to the drought-stricken residents.
